In a major relief to direct selling company QNET, which has been trying to defend its business model in Mumbai for the last three years, the High Court of Hyderabad has seen merit in granting a stay on all proceedings against the company in the state. The decision comes at a time when the government has taken steps towards recognising and regularising the direct selling industry in the country. Last month, the Ministry of Consumer Affairs had issued Direct Selling Guidelines 2016 for all companies operating in this space for many years in the country, without a clear legislation in place to protect the companies or the consumers. The thriving direct selling industry in India is estimated to have generated approximately Rs.7200 crores in revenues in 2015. The decision by Justice Sri Ramachandra Rao at the Hyderabad High Court grants welcome relief to the directors and shareholders of Vihaan Direct Selling Pvt Ltd, the sub-franchisee of direct selling company QNET in India. The company and its officers have continued to cooperate with the authorities in all investigations since 2013 and have submitted more than 50,000 pages of documents to support its stand as a legitimate business. VP Sathi Senathirajah

VP Sathi Senathirajah

Biography

Before QNet, VP Sathi was working a 9-5 dead-end job in an Electronic Engineering company in Malaysia with no big dreams and virtually zero chance of financial freedom. Eager as ever, he decided that QNet could possibly be the big break that he needed to finally make something of himself.

Hailing as a middle child from a close-knit loving family of his mother and 2 brothers – VP Kuna and V Managing Director Pathman – VP Sathi is known for his silent yet significant ways. Ever a place of love and solace, the Senathirajah household was always a welcoming one as made sure by his late mother Madam Pathmavathi Kandiah – and there is much to show for it in the success and heart of her sons.

When asked about the toughest moments he has faced in QNet so far, he says that the tough moments are definitely many but some of the most challenging roadblocks are certainly sustaining and keeping the networks on the ground switched-on during crisis situations.

Although VP Sathi is an overachiever in nature, the moment that he is most proud of thus far is definitely when he was named a V Partner in 2009. “Also, every time I saw the light in my mother’s eyes and the warmth in her smile, those were always the most rewarding moments -- especially knowing that my brothers and I put it there,” he quips.

VP Sathi identifies ‘Consistency’ as his key to success. He says ‘From the time you wake up from the time you go to sleep. Don’t eat, don’t sleep until you accomplish your goals.’

In his leisure time, VP Sathi enjoys simple pleasures like playing a few rounds of poker or billiards or simply spending time at home.

He looks up to his mother, first and foremost, whom he affirms was his ‘purpose’ from the very beginning. VP Sathi also draws inspiration from the likes of Nelson Mandela and Sir Richard Branson.

KAVITA SUGANDH : New Age Women Entrepreneur

Rise of the New Age Women Entrepreneur: KAVITA SUGANDH

Tell us about your journey from a small time job to that entrepreneurship
I was born in Raipur, Chattisgarh, studied from Nagpur and hail from an average middle class family. My father encouraged me to start earning from a very early age. Hence, I have been working since the age of 14. I started by setting up a plant nursery while I was still studying in school.
After my graduation, I joined Hutchison Max (Now Vodafone), then I joined Aditya Birla Insurance and finally Kotak Mahindra Bank. Since I come from a traditional business family I was never comfortable with working for someone else and always knew I wanted to do something on my own. However, I never had enough capital to get started.
Around 2006, I decided to quit my job and started an HR consultancy business, which was my first major stint at entrepreneurship.  I was the CEO, administrator, the clerk and the only employee, since I couldn’t afford to hire people. With hard work and determination, eventually I was able to grow this business and establish multiple offices. This experience also taught me that running a business is not easy. I was very hands-on and my company was centred around me and that meant I could not afford to fall sick or go on vacation since a lot of money was at stake. Also, all the profits seemed to only appear on paper and never in the bank!
Two years later, I discovered direct selling through QNet and since then my journey as an entrepreneur has completely transformed.

So how did you come across Direct Selling and why were you attracted to it?
By the year 2008 I had already been working with some of the top brand names in India for 8 years. Then one day, QNet came into our lives through a family friend. My husband Sachin Gupta was the first one to realise the potential of the direct selling business and immediately took it up. I was initially reluctant since I was still focussing on making a success of my HR consultancy business, but decided to give it a shot, though not wholeheartedly.
It took me about a year before I realised the power of the direct selling business to impact sustainable change. I had gone for one of QNet’s international conventions where I had the opportunity to attend their training programs, interact with other distributors from around the world, and explore the various products. I came back home from the convention and closed down my HR business. From that day on, I decided to give QNet my 100 per cent.
I had to work very hard for four long years before experiencing any form of success with QNet. By 2012, my husband and I decided to move to Dubai to expand our business internationally. For the next one year I was constantly traveling between India and Dubai. By 2014 the team in India was becoming self-reliant and I didn’t have to oversee things regularly and was able to properly shift to Dubai and focus on the international business.

How many years did it take before you felt you were achieving some level of success in your QNet business?
I still don’t consider myself successful. There is so much more to achieve! For me, this is a never-ending journey. A journey that I wish would never end, because I am enjoying every minute of the ride.
I have never shied away from hard work, but as an entreprenuer with QNet I have learnt about hard work at a whole new level. This is not a get-rich-quick scheme, but a get-rich-sure business, provided you are putting our heart and soul into it.  For the first 18 months, I did not make any money. I faced a lot of setbacks and rejections. That made me angry but it also fuelled my hunger to do better. When I earned my first commission cheque after 18 months of hard work and effort, the wait was totally worth it!
Your husband and you are a team. How much of your success do you attribute to him?
I owe all my success to him. He is the one and only reason for it. He brought me into this business and has been with me through the thick and thin and the ups and downs. In this business, he is my upline and not my husband. In the last 4 years, we have been less of a couple and more of upline and downline. One mistake I see many couples make in this business is confuse this relationship and that’s what prevents them from making it big.
I was willing to keep my ego aside and follow my upline 200 per cent and he has been the best upline ever.
What is the secret to succeeding as an entrepreneur?
There is no substitute to hard work. My husband and I used to work 18-20 hours a day, all 7 days a week when we started out. In the last 3-4 years, I have been unwell only once and I was in the hospital for a week. Even then, I used to work from the hospital helping and guiding my team members remotely.

Has it been difficult being a woman in this business?
I think men find it far more difficult. Women usually have all the traits needed to be successful in direct selling. In my opinion, us women are the only reason for our own failures. If we want to be successful and walk hand in hand in men, then why do we need a man to make us realise our own potential? We don’t need a special women’s day to talk about everything that’s good about being a woman. Success doesn’t see gender. It comes to those who put their blood and sweat into and are deserving of it.

What were the challenges that you faced as part of your entreprenurial journey? Did you ever want to give up when times were hard?
I believe that when you go all out to achieve your dreams, you will be faced with challenges. You cannot achieve success without failure. I am glad that I faced so many challenges and experienced failures, because that’s what helped me grow as a person.
My biggest challenge was coming out of my shell. I am inherently shy and a loner by nature. This has often been perceived as arrogance. I had to make the effort to change this and take initiative to approach people and talk to them. For this, I will always be grateful to my husband and my mentors because they helped and guided me to becoming who I am today.
I have never thought of quitting or giving up. I AM NOT A QUITTER.  I never was.  In fact, each challenge has only made me stronger. I think people who quit either have other choices or they are simply ok with not succeeding. I have been clear with myself that success is my only choice.

Your advice to the young generation of women who aspire to be entrepreneurs.
In India, even today in many places young women or girl children are dissuaded from taking up a career or being ambitious. In my opinion we celebrate Woman’s Day because we don’t consider women as equal to men. I tell the women in my team that their success is entirely up to them. They need to believe they can be successful and be willing to put in the work needed for it.
As a society we should never let a women feel that she is not capable or not suitable to do something. We need to create an environment where women should be encouraged to follow their dreams, and make their own choices.

Sachin Gupta - Success Story : Living Proof

Sachin Gupta - Success Story : Living Proof

What attracted you about the direct selling industry and QNET in particular?
I grew up in the small town of Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh, India and didn’t know anything about direct selling. After college I saw a lot of people getting an MBA, so I decided to follow the crowd and got myself an MBA. At that time my father had only five more years to retirement and I felt the pressure to take on the responsibilities of my parents and my younger sister. So I immediately got a job and for the next ten years I was in banking, insurance and FMCG industries building a corporate career.
In the early days of my corporate life, I was introduced to the concept of direct selling through another company and the main thing that attracted me about the business model was the potential financial freedom it offered. I was able to see the possibility of reducing a 40-year career into 4 years. I decided to pursue this opportunity and got involved with them on a part time basis. But I realized that while I was seeing growth in my corporate career with promotions and increments, I was not seeing the expected income with this direct selling company. I gave it up because it didn’t seem worthwhile for the money I was making from it. About seven years into climbing the corporate ladder I was starting to get restless and wanted to do something on my own. That’s when I came across QNET and this is where I was able to see the actual income potential that gave me the confidence to leave my job and pursue it fulltime.

I also liked all the products offered by QNet and I continue to use them every day. Products in health and wellness segment, and luxury watches are some of my favourites. So I knew that whether or not the business side of things worked out, I would have gained some great products in the process.

Were you convinced that the business model will let you gain financial independence?
I saw that the business model was solid. Millions of people around the world have used it to gain financial freedom. I had to build myself to build the business and that’s exactly what I kept on doing. I just followed the basics, stuck to my dreams and kept on giving it my 100 percent. In one-and-a-half years’ time I started making money from the business which was letting me survive without a job. In my second year, I started making a little more and that allowed me to clear all my loans which further motivated me and pushed me. I could never do that in my nine years in banking.  In those nine years, I had only built up my liabilities and now I had the opportunity to set new goals and work for them.

What is an important lesson you have learnt about business and life in your experience as a Network Marketing professional?
The two most important things I have come to value in this journey are the personal growth and the warrior mindset. I consider both to be an asset. In my opinion, the material benefits you get out of the network marketing business is not as important as the person you evolve into, in the process of achieving success.

Did you have to struggle a lot and feel at any time like this wasn’t for you?
There is a saying in Gujarati that you require a minimum of 1,000 days to explore a business.  Most entrepreneurs fail because they give up much before then. The same is true in the direct selling business as well. I understood at that time that I just had to stick with it and keep giving it my best and shouldn’t give up. I knew that if I made it here, the experience would transform me and make me stronger. With that in mind, I faced every obstacle that was thrown in my way.  And just as I knew, each one of those experiences taught me something new and made me stronger. I had to keep giving my 100 percent even to the smallest things.
The first one-and-half years I struggled a lot. I left my job in six months, not because I was making a lot of money in direct selling, but because in my job I once again got a promotion and at that time it became very clear to me that I had to choose. If i wanted the banking career, then I had to focus there and keep aiming for more promotions and get deeper and deeper into corporate life. I would never be able to come out of it then. Since I knew that I didn’t want to take that route for the long run, I decided to give up the job. By that time, I had grown confident about my QNet business and knew that sooner or later I would be able to make it big here.

Can you describe one life changing moment for you in QNET?
Having grown up in a middle class family in a small town for most of my life, I have seen the sacrifices my parents have made for us, and the financial limitations that prevented them from pursuing their dreams. When I first took them on a holiday abroad they were constantly converting the local currency back into Indian rupees and were hesitant to buy anything. But now, I see them travelling everywhere on business class and pursuing their dreams without financial worries. Seeing them develop the millionaire mindset has been a very important landmark for me.

What does success mean to you?
Success means a lot of hard work, overcoming challenges and dealing with constant mental conflict in the beginning of the journey. But the road leads to peace of mind, mental and emotional satisfaction and new beginnings again. For me success is not the destination; it’s only the milestone before next one.
When I was young my dream was to play cricket at an international level for my country. I had represented by University at the national level. But at that time I could not pursue that dream because of the uncertainty of sports and the pressure of family responsibility. I will not let that happen to the next generation. Being able to say that with confidence is a sign of success for me.

Sachin Gupta and Kavita Sugandh - QNET Blue Diamond Rank

Sachin Gupta and Kavita Sugandh Achieve Blue
Diamond Rank At QNET

Sachin Gupta and Kavita Sugandh from India have achieved the top rank of Blue Diamond Star.

This power couple are QNETs first-ever Blue Diamond Stars.

The Achievers Club was launched in 2012 showcasing 5 proud ranks: Bronze Star, Silver Star, Gold Star, Platinum Star and Diamond Star because QNET believes that there is a star in each and everyone of us waiting to shine.

in July 2017, two new ranks were introduced; the Sapphire Star and the Blue Diamond Star.

Sachin Gupta said success is not the destination, it is only a milestone before the next one. To achieve success, you need to have the millionaire mindset.
Kavita Sugandh said, when you meet people and talk to them about being part of a million-dollar project, you need to look like a million dollars yourself. What is the Millionaire Mindset?

Sachin describes it as not only believing in the importance of having money in your bank account but having the freedom to spend money with no fear of not having enough in the future.
This belief comes from the confidence that what you have worked for will keep growing. It is believing that you can enjoy life without having to look at price tags… be it for lifestyle or charitable purposes.
Put them together and what will you get? A power couple. Amazing inspirations. Leaders who lead by example.
He grew up in a middle-class family in a small town in Madhya Pradesh. He got himself an MBA and built his career in several business industries like banking, insurance and FMCG.
She worked for some big names in India, got tired of working for someone else and eventually started an HR firm where she was the jack-of-all-trades not because she loves her business a tad too much, but because she didnt have the money to hire people.

Qnet - the Truth behind The Business

Qnet - the Truth behind The Business

1) What is QNET? Qnet is a global E-commerce company & a subsidiary of Qi Group of Companies. Qnet is a part of Network Marketing Industry which is 110 years old & $100Billion Industry. Qnet has an annual Turnover of more than $1.7Billion. Qnet is also a business model where people are paid to create a Distribution Channel to sell its products.

Above: Some of the QNET partners based in Nairobi Kenya presenting a check to Mater Heart Fund in 2013...

2) Is QNET a Scam?
NO. A scam is a con biz where you are asked to invest money - with a promise of double/triple returns without working. Qnet is a business hence if you don't work at it , you won't earn .

3) Why is QNET not a Scam? Is it Legal?
Q-net is a registered direct selling company & Direct Selling is a World wide recognized LEGAL Business. Govt. of India, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, has clarified via their circular dated March 31, 2003, that the Prize chits & Money circulation Scheme (Banning) Act 1978 - is not applicable to companies dealing with distribution of goods including Direct Selling & Network Marketing Companies.
In QNET, no one will tell you that you will get anything without working. QNET is a business model, where you invest money / buy a product & with that you get a Business center, Network support & virtual Infrastructure absolutely free of cost. With this business center you can create a network & spread the idea of the Biz, which will do more Sales. For each sale Qnet gives you a defined amount of profit (money) and hence more the sales, more the profit. In short Qnet pays you to sell their product, just like a Salesman / Stock Broker gets his salary & incentives, just like how a normal Business man earns, just like how a Shopkeeper earns by selling things. Only difference is you dont work alone here.

4) Is QNET a Pyramid scheme / system?
NO.  Pyramid schemes / systems are illegal all over the world, where the people at the top benefit from the financial suffering of those they introduce into the organisation. Both Network Marketing & Pyramid systems utilise the power of exponential growth, but they use this principle in different ways and for very different ends. Hence, one must verify the fact before joining a NM Compnay. facts cannot be verified from Googling or through baseless reports many media websites provide. facts can only be verified through a person in the Biz who is atleast 6 months old in the company. I had verified QNET's PAN no., Registered office & DSA registration, check out the link for proof : (http://www.dsam.org.my/members-list)

5) Why do so many people write/complain  about QNET? or why do people fail in QNET?
As Networking requires hard work & dedication, most of the people are not able to cope up with the required efforts. These people are either lazy to work or lazy to LEARN. Most of the people fail in Qnet or in any Network marketing biz is because they just focus on earning and avoid LEARNING, which is the greatest mistake. No business can be run by anyone without knowing how to run it, without the knowledge of the Industry & the Know-how of the biz. Same is with Qnet biz, people who dont learn the Biz, fails drastically & hence they complain/write crap about it claiming that it dsnt work. Actually if you ask me, I'll say - "No business works, You have to work the Business."

6) Is this a 'Get Rich quick scheme'?
Nope! Network marketing is not by any means a get rich quick scheme. If you're looking for a way to make vast amounts of money in a very short time then you should probably consider crime or gambling, but I wouldn't advise either! NM requires effort like in any other biz to make it work. As answered in Q.5) above, it usually takes a dedicated effort over the course of a few years before anyone starts earning a substantial income.
Network marketing is not a 'get rich quick' scheme, but it is a good method to build up an extra stream of income, which is a lot better than most people have right now.

7) Is Network Marketing / Qnet Legal?
Network marketing is absolutely legal, and is governed by strict regulations in most countries. However, be aware that some companies masquerade as network marketing companies whilst failing to conform to the required regulations.
In most countries, the network marketing industry is regulated by the Direct Selling Association (DSA). There is lots more information on their website regarding regulations and legal issues. They charge hefty fees for membership, so it is certainly possible that a legitimate network marketing company might not be a member of the DSA. Qnet is registered with the DSA. The list of DSA registered companies can be checked through the link provided in Q.4).
8) Am I being brainwashed?
Yes, every time you watch a TV commercial, read the news paper or speak to any of your opinionated friends. Your opinions on pretty much everything are the result of brainwashing, some of which is accurate and some is not. The point of this page is that network marketing does not need to rely on such methods to be successful - either it makes sense to you or it doesn't. Lots of people are worried because they find network marketing extremely exciting, but their friends don't seem to agree. They have perhaps heard stories of unscrupulous conmen and wonder if they are being conned. At some point, you have to stand back and look at the situation with logical eyes - just ask yourself who is most qualified to make a valid decision. If you ask negative people why they dislike NM, 9 times out of 10 they will return with an incorrect or illogical reason. I soon realized that their opinion was probably based on brainwashing, not mine.
9) Isn't this exploiting my friends & relatives?
Lots of people worry about this point, despite the fact that they never considered it themselves when they were introduced to the business. When I was introduced to NM, I was grateful for the opportunity to examine the business, and I never once thought that I was being exploited. After all, I was offered exactly the same opportunity as my friend, and it was my choice whether to enter into the business or not. If I did all the work and they did none then I would still get a substantially larger income from my business than they would. In most network marketing organizations, those who do nothing are not eligible for an income. Besides - if there were no upline above me and I was the first person ever to join the organization, the compensation plan presented to me would have been exactly the same. The actions of those above me in the organization were not affecting me, except in a positive way through their encouragement and commitment.
10) Why should I trust and join QNET?
Qnet started in September 1998 & is now 14 years old (2012). It has an annual Turnover of  $1.7Billion. It has a customer base of more than 7 Million people across the globe. The products it offer are highly loved among its already existing customers with great services. It has the Best compensation plans among all the NM companies offering an annual turnover of Rs.14.42cr. after a dedicated effort of 4-5 yrs.
QNET is the official sponsor of Formula-1 Virgin Racing Team, AFC Champions League, etc. & is partner with bodies like FIFA, Ferrari Corp., United nations Food & agriculture program, RYTHM Foundation, Commonwealth Forums, Mayer Mint, etc.
If so powerful & influential people like Sir Richard Branson, Nick Vujicic, Muttiah Muralitharan, Boman Irani, Michael Ferreira, Sourav Ganguly, etc. can trust Qnet & work/endorse it, who are you & I to question Qnet's credibility!!!
11) If  QNET is so good, why doesn't everyone join?
People who say 'no' to Qnet for several reasons. For the majority, they don't see how it could fit into their lives. They have perhaps lived a very long time in the same frame of mind, or the same job, and it has become a fixed pattern. For others, they honestly don't see how they could find enough time in their hectic life. Plenty of people working 90 or 100+ hours a week have built huge network marketing businesses in their spare time. It's just a matter of priorities.
The majority of people who don't join all have exactly the same reason. That is "I just don't think that it will work for me." Of course, the job of a dedicated network marketer is to convince those people that it can work for them, and that the rewards are real and tangible. But in the end, many people will never join. But this is great - if the whole world joined then who would be the doctors, dentists, politicians, musicians, shop workers, police, waiters, cooks, accountants and teachers!

Then there is the group that is so sure of themselves that they cannot possibly understand why anyone would want to join a NM organization. Some of them even go out to stop those they know from doing the same. This is almost always borne of an ignorance of NM. There is usually a friend of a friend who tried and failed. Often these people cover their tracks by blaming it on the company or the business model - they don't admit that they simply didn't work hard enough. Sometimes they joined a poor company, and didn't research it enough. It's unfortunate, but these people will always exist. Everyone who has ever achieved anything difficult has faced those people telling them why they were sure to fail. Albert Einstein's school maths teacher famously told him that he would never amount to anything! I love this quote from that same man whose outstanding mind revolutionized practically all of modern physics:

Often those people mean well, but they are simply voicing their own opinion. Millions of people have been held back from achieving truly remarkable things with their lives because of  'well-meaning friends' who told them not to. You have to analyse your decision for yourself - make sure that it is the right one and then absolutely commit to it. It doesn't matter whether that decision is a 'yes' or a 'no' - just trust yourself! Remember - whenever anyone tells you that you're wrong, you almost certainly know a lot more about your business than they do! Don't let someone else's ignorance steal your chance for success!
